If you’ve ever felt the Lord nudging you toward a bigger purpose, you know the mix of excitement and uncertainty that comes with stepping into something new. Maybe you’ve questioned whether you’re truly ready or if you have what it takes to make a bold move in your career.
Here’s the good news: when you trust God’s timing and take action, you’ll find that the path ahead, while not always clear, is always worth it.
This is my story of leaving the security of a steady paycheck to follow my calling—and how that decision unlocked new opportunities, deeper clarity, and a thriving career aligned with my values. *This is my personal journey, I encourage you to use wisdom and get an understanding (things I’m still working on, lol) when stepping out in faith. For example, having money saved before you leave your job (unless the Lord is calling you to do otherwise).
A Leap of Faith: The Start of My Career Shift
For years, I felt an inner pull to step out of my 9-to-5 routine and pursue meaningful work that used my unique gifts. I loved helping people craft resumes, refine their personal brands, and secure the jobs of their dreams. But turning that passion into a business? It felt like an uphill battle.
Questions kept swirling:
- Am I really ready for this?
- What if I fail?
- Can I make this work financially?
Even though the doubts were loud, verses like Proverbs 3:5-6 encouraged me:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
I realized that obedience to God meant taking action—even without all the answers. So, with prayer and preparation, I stepped out of my comfort zone, left my job, and launched my resume-writing business.
Lessons Learned from Taking the Leap
Here are three powerful truths I’ve discovered along the way:
1. Obedience Opens Doors
Saying “yes” to what you’re called to do unlocks opportunities you couldn’t plan on your own. When I leaned into serving others through resume writing and personal branding, clients started sharing their success stories:
“Jackie has been a blessing to work with. Her deep dive into building a relationship with me so that she could best know who I am and how I function in my work and outside of work made my experience working with her the best.”
Every client’s journey reinforced this truth: when you align your actions with your purpose, your impact grows.
2. Trust Requires Action
Faith isn’t passive—it’s about taking bold, consistent steps, even when the path feels uncertain. For me, this meant:
- Learning new skills to improve my craft.
- Setting up systems to streamline my work and serve clients better.
- Writing a clear vision for my business and trusting God to guide my next move.
Habakkuk 2:2 says: “Write the vision and make it plain.” Taking small, deliberate actions helped me gain momentum, even when I didn’t have all the answers upfront.
3. God’s Timing is Perfect
It’s easy to feel like you’ve waited too long or missed your chance. But Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
Looking back, I can see how every challenge and delay built the skills, resilience, and relationships I needed to succeed. The right doors opened at just the right time—not a moment too soon or too late.
Pause and Plan: Your Next Step
As we approach the new year, take this opportunity to pause and consider your own calling. You don’t have to have all the answers to make meaningful progress. Start with these steps:
- Clarify Your Goals. What would success in this season of your career look like?
- Celebrate Your Strengths. Reflect on the challenges you’ve overcome and the impact you’ve made in your work.
- Take Small Actions. Update your resume, refine your LinkedIn profile, or start exploring opportunities that excite you.
Encouragement for the Journey
As you step into this next season, remember:
- You’re more equipped than you realize. The skills and experiences you’ve gained have uniquely prepared you for what’s ahead.
- It’s never too late to start. Every step you take brings clarity and momentum.
- God’s plans are good. Trust that He’s working through every detail to guide you toward opportunities that align with your values and goals.
Obedience isn’t just about sacrifice—it’s about stepping into the abundance waiting for you on the other side. Let this be the season where you say “yes” to what’s next, confident that your best days are ahead.
So, what’s your next step? Take a moment to pause, plan, and take action. The journey toward unlocking your calling starts now.
