In my search to market and grow my business, I’ve come across countless marketing gurus screaming at me, telling me how to grow my business online.
Well, it felt like they were screaming at me.
And I’ve felt a little…overwhelmed.
With all the tactics, strategies, and “buy my courses” out there, I quickly lost myself in the noise.
I became desperate to find a SIMPLE approach to marketing that would actually grow my business, and do it stress-free.
So in all the research I’ve combed through, I’ve found that if you do these three things and do them WELL, you’ll see ever-increasing growth for as long as you’re in business.
1. Make sure you’re absolutely clear on the problem you solve.
Your niche is not your target audience in your targeted industry. Not really.
Your niche is the specific problem you solve for your target audience.
What is it that keeps them up at night?
Your niche is your solution to that problem.
If you can take the time to get crystal clear on what that is, you’ll find the gap in the industry and can tailor your marketing to address THAT problem. Because your customer isn’t really buying your product or service, they’re spending their hard-earned money on the solution to their problem.
For example…
They’re not buying your Hair Elixir, they’re buying hair growth.
And to take it even further, they’re buying the confidence that comes with a full head of hair. That’s what you’re selling them.
Every piece of copy and content on your website and social media should speak to that fact.
Because at this stage in your business, to get your foot in the door, you need to solve this one specific problem and solve it well.
2. You will undoubtedly become a marketer.
“If you build it they will come” makes for a great movie line, but terrible business plan.
Can I tell you something? You may already know this, but you have to become a marketer (or hire one).
Once you have your offer in place, like superman you need to put on your marketing costume and go save the day for your business.
Not only do you need to become a marketer, you need to market the right way.
Simply getting on social media and talking at your clients about who you are and what you do just won’t get you any traction. COPYWRITING TIP: Your reader will subconsciously ask “what’s in it for me?”
If your content doesn’t answer that question, then no one really cares.
When you create content of any kind, always ask yourself what will your audience gain from this information. If it EDUCATES, ENTERTAINS or INSPIRES, then it’s good to go!
3. You’ll need to spend time relationship-building. This one is pretty much a non-negotiable.
Does the thought of reaching out to others make you want to get back in bed and pull the covers over your head???
I get it. As a recovering introvert, this one is hard for me, but I understand. …grrh… how important it is.
I’m sure you’ve come across tons of strategies on how to “collaborate,” “network” and whatnot, but I’m here to tell you that these potential anxiety-inducing tactics will UNDOUBTEDLY grow your business; whether you provide a service, sell a product or both.
This is true for every industry.
As a new entrepreneur, you have to get your foot in the door to the hearts and minds of your ideal clients in SOME WAY.
Begin to follow the posts of your prospective clients; offer helpful tips or inspiring stories. The idea is to not only MARKET to your ideal audience but also CONNECT with them.
Talk to them, get feedback and listen to whatever it is they’re saying. At this stage, this is GOLD.
And within your network, start making connections early on. Find entrepreneurs with complementary offerings, who share the same target audience, and start engaging with their social posts.
Pro tip: Pretend you’re a people person.
Tell someone on the street what you do. Take some business cards to local events in your area “just in case.” If you’re consistent in OPENING UP to others, you’ll begin building relationships with them and some of them may even kick a bit of work your way.
There you have it.
Three simple truths you need to know to steadily grow your business as an entrepreneur. Get clear on the problem you solve, become a marketer, and build relationships with your audience and peers.
If you apply these principles to every one of your growth strategies, you’ll never feel overwhelmed with the need to chase the latest fleeting trend, and you’ll finally become that “booked-out” or “sold out” whatever before you know it.
